Today, we received a phone call from Angela (the English volunteer teacher I replaced at the Copey Learning Center). She and her boyfriend, Gregory (one of my English students) invited us to come around for dinner. She was serving Shepherd's Pie, so how could we resist! Angela now works in San Jose, but she travels by bus every weekend to see Gregory. And Gregory lives and works as the supervisor on the first Costa Rican winemaking vineyard, which is growing a variety of organic grapes - and it just so happens to be about a 10-minute drive from our place. Gregory's boss and owner of the property has other vineyards in California and Isreal, and is apparently quite successful. This vineyard will be ready to produce wine in approximately 2 years. They're also planning on providing tours to tourists, which will be amazing. The property has stunning views and you don't have to be a wine drinker to appreciate it... Kevin doesn't drink wine, but was fascinated with the process. I took some pictures of the property, but I now realize that I don't have any good pictures of the actual vineyard, showing the rows and rows of grape vines. The property sits at 7,020 ft. - only 325 ft higher than our property... however, we're nestled in a valley, whereas they are perched on a mountaintop.
