Anne, Kevin, Bettys, the bulls, Frankie and Bobbie,
We have had an incredible time here in the slice of paradise you have created that is Hush Valley Lodge. We are so grateful to have gotten to meet you as we are your last guests here. Since the day I started planning our first trip to Costa Rica, Anne was always there to help.
We know it is bittersweet as your time living here is coming to an end (you leave in a week!) but it is now time for your next chapter of life's adventure. You two are such an inspiration to Drew and I to go towards life in such an optimistic way, willing to take on new journeys, and always follow our dreams, as well as being so open-hearted and generous to others. In a short time here, we feel we have learned so much from you both. Not just about the incredible things you have done here on this property, but important life skills we will carry with us!
Anne, I cannot thank you enough for how much you did for me with my painful broken arm. You are exactly the nurturing mama I needed for this unfortunate turn of events that happened on our trip. Seriously, I do not know what I would have done without you taking me to that miracle worker doctor!! We have no idea what was in that butt shot, but it sure did the trick!! Thank you times a million for everything you have done! You both are incredible hosts! Your cooking is superb, Anne! The experience of catching our own dinner combined with your culinary talents is unmatched by any other B&B.
I am so happy the deal is going through and you are about to begin a new wonderful adventure together surrounded by your loved ones. I know this place will be in good hands (we definitely had to read the new owners' comments in this book!), as well as healing and life changing for the people it has meant to be for after your time here.
Kevin, we could have toured and talked about the property for the entire day! So fascinating!! You brought this trout farm back to life!
Thank you both for everything. It couldn't have been a more perfect way to unwind from our Costa Rica adventure in this rustic paradise. We will be sad to not see you for the next visit when we return, but are oh so glad it worked out that we were your last guests here!
Much love, Colleen and Drew Chicago, IL, USA

Dear Anne and Kevin (Bobbie and Frankie, too!)
Can't thank you enough for your gracious hospitality, gourmet cooking, and for answering all 4,312 of our questions! You are the best! This has been an amazing trip from airport pick-up to delivery and the magnificent hours in between. Your love and stewardship are clearly evident in this secret hideaway.
The casita was open and inviting, warm and cozy. The outdoor shower was a visual and auditory delight. The grounds are like a botanic garden at our fingertips, blessed by the forest surrounding it. We truly hope to return to this magical place and look forward to many happy memories of the trip.
Love and blessings, Molly and Gary Arizona, U.S.
P.S. We only wish we could have stayed longer.

Dear Anne and Kevin,
We had a wonderful time in "la casita" at Hush Valley. Thank you so much for being such a great hosts for us.
You have a really beautiful property and I hope that you always keep that peace that you came her to find. Thanks for sharing that peace and beauty with us.
Kevin, it's amazing how much you have learned about the trout and the passion you put into your work. Anne, you are a fantastic host and you cook splendidly. We definitely will come back here in the future.
Thanks a lot!! Ronny and Catalina, Heredia, Costa Rica

Anne and Kevin,
We were lucky enough to find out about Hush Valley in the right moment!! Our experiences here have been wonderful in every aspect. In one word: transcendent!!! This place is full of life and healing energy, a couple of hours after our arrival we could feel ourselves renewed.
As Costa Ricans, we are thankful to you for treating this place with so much love and care, and for sharing it with every visitor. We wish you well and hope we can come back soon!
Dear Bobbie: we LOVE you!!!

Thanks for taking the time to take care of us (the meals were unreal), and sharing your ideas. The tours and walks were wonderful. We will leave with dreams of a return.
Until next time, The Halls Arizona, U.S.

Kevin and Anne,
We have enoyed our stay at Hush Valley so much. Little Bobbie has been nothing but the most gracious of hots. Travelling around the back country of Costa Rica, we got to see all the dogs travelling the higway with big smiles on their faces. It was so nice to meet one of these dogs living the Pura Vida. What a little character! Kevin - thans for the tour and all your knowledge of the land. Anne- thank you for the wonderful fish dinner. You two are both great caretakers of the land. The area eninated love and wamth. Whaat you two do for this area is immeasurable and thank you fo rsharing it with people from all over the world.
When we drove back from our farm tour, there was a rainbow shining on Hush Valley. It led down by the river. Nick and I walk down ther and Nick knew it was the perfect time and place... he had been waiting to propose marriage. So we're leaving Hush Valley engaged!! Thank you so much for everything. We will miss Bobbie.

Dear Anne and Kevin,
I came to Hush Valley to spend a few days with an old and dear friend, and I leave so much enriched by the beauty and peace of your farm. The light of the moon and the rushing waters, the green forest and rolling hills, the steep valleys, wind and sunlight on blossoms... all fed my soul. Great food and conversation, and hiking made the visit delightful. I adore Bobbie and Frankie!! What more can I say? It was a short visit but exotic. It was sooo great to connect with you, Anne, and to know we still have a deep friendship. I admire you both for coming here and learning the ways of the farm, making and keeping it beautiful and getting off the "beaten track" for a while.
Thank you for your warm hospitality and for introducing me to Costa Rica. I hope my travels bring me back here; and I hope the future for you both is filled with friends, love and adventurous undertakings.
Much love, Jane Vermont, U.S.

Dear Anne and Kevin,
Thank you for sharing this very special place with us, and so many others. The beauty of the mountains and the valley will echo in my/our memories... the constant rush of the river, wind and bird-song. Clearly, you have taken what was here and made it even better!
Seven days/nights have passed and not a moment of our time here has been without enjoyment and a measure of awe! We have slept peacefully, eaten healthfully and deliciously (thank you, Anne!), and read volumes.
Love and blessings, Liane and Michael Ontario, Canada

Anne and Kevin,
Thank you so much for your hospitality and all that you have shared with us. The first time my mom (Krista) came back from here she couldn't quit talking about the amount of love she has for this place, lifestyle, and country. She was so expressive almost to tears of happiness and to those who know her know that it doesn't happen often. For that, I have to thank you the most for making my mother so happy.
On another note I love my stay here, you guys are incredibly nice people and so welcoming. I loved the tour of the property and being able to relax in the hammock. I also enjoyed being able to catch dinner and help filet. I hope to be able to come back and visit this property as well as you guys.
Much love, Korynn Oregon, U.S.

You have done such good things here in the last 4.5 years.

Dear Anne and Kevin,
Thank you for your hospitality! We very much appreciated Anne's delicious food, and Kevin's enjoyable and informative tour around the farm. I am in dire danger of repeating everything said before this. I arrived late (just at sunset) having had one very stressful day just trying to get out of San Jose. From the moment I arrived, I wanted to kiss the earth as "hallowed ground." It wasn't until the next morning that I had the chance to appreciate the beauty of this valley. Listening to the river flow can just carry away the stress.
Kevin and Anne are incredible hosts and there for every request. Chicken, trout, shepherd's pie -- take your pick; they're all wonderful. If I could stay longer, I would. Santa Maria is a potential future home. Loved my stay and I wish Kevin and Anne all the best in future.

Dear Anne and Kevin,
Thank you so much for our hospitality in a wonderful setting. If everyone looked after nature as you do we would all live much better and our poor planet wouldn't be in such a state.
The waterfall garden is superb, the food delicious, and the tour of the farm fascinating. We hope Hurricane Otto will not pay you a visit and that we will not encounter him either.
Good luck with your future projects. Matt and Esther England

Anne and Kevin,
Thank you for sharing this wonderful piece of paradise with us! We are grateful for the opportunity to say here and meet you both. We have appreciated you sharing your knowledge and passion as well as the thought and care that you have put into making this a very special experience for your guests! Anne, you put it well when you said "we like to provide the kind of experience that we would like to have when we are travelling." With that, you have attracted guests with similar thoughts and values. It has been such a pleasure to get to know you both a little bit and we would love it if our paths crossed again.
Anne, thank you for the beautiful food. We enjoyed it so much! Kevin, thank you for the wonderful tour. It was great to learn from you.
Thanks for sharing so much and inspiring us. Until we meet again... Connie and Jeff Seattle, WA, U.S.
P.S. We left the jam jar, but we did take Bobbie. We'll be sure she sends postcards from Seattle ;)

Anne and Kevin,
We couldn't have been happier to stumble across Hush Valley on Airbnb! What an amazing place. After a crazy busy few months, a stay here was exactly what we needed to relax.
Horse riding with Abel was certainly entertaining and so much fun!
The tour of the property by Kevin was really interesting and it's clear how much he loves this place... who wouldn't though! And the fishing... couldn't have asked for a better intro! Plus catching the larger of the fish (sorry, Michael!) clearly indicates I'm a natural!
All in all, couldn't have had a better stay and made to feel amazingly welcome by Anne and Kevin. We will pass on word of this place to anyone who will listen.
Best wishes and we hope to see you again some day... if you are ever in Cayman! Sooze and Michael U.K and Cayman Islands

It's my THIRD trip to HVL - this year!!! I can't get enough. It's my "reset' button, I guess.
Thank you for the lovely smoked trout birthday gift. Thank you fo rthe transportation to and from the airport. Thanks to Bobbie and Frankie for their hospitality.
I hate it when this book arrives and our time ends, but I've got a feeling we'll be back... sooner than later!

Dear Anne, Kevin, Bobbie and Frankie,
Cason and I couldn't have imagined a better place to start off our married life after our Tamarindo wedding! Costa Rica is certainly a breathtaking place, but your home is positively picturesque!
This place is the closest thing to paradise I've ever seen!
Kevin's tour was wonderful and we had a fantastic time meeting the bulls and hiking the property.
We hope we can return in the years to come. In the meantime, we'll tell everyone we know that they need to visit this beautiful lodge! Thank you all so much for your hospitality. We'll never forget this place. It's simply incredible!
Best of luck to both of you! And to your canine friends.

Dear Anne and Kevin,
Thank you so much for making our stay here so comfortable and welcoming. The privacy, wilderness and peacefulness of your. valley felt like we were 'home'. The beauty and relaxing sounds of the Rio Blanco and the flowing water everywhere on the property were amazing. The gardens and birds were wonderful.
Thank you for the delicious food, comfortable casita, all your attention and consideration... not to mention your cute cohorts Frankie and Bobbie.

Anne and Kevin,
Thank you again for your hospitality. We had a great time, the trout was delicious and the scenery was fantastic. We made it back to the hotel just fine after that very nice scenic detour you suggested. I bought some coffee from that cafe in Santa Maria and I can't wait to try it!

Dear Anne and Kevin,
The days we spent in your lodge are the first days we spent in Costa Rica and it's an amazing trailer of our holidays! We appreciate the personal space you have given us: you have shared with us your story and at the same time you have let us experience a taste of paradise!
It is the small details that make you wonderful hosts (band-aids, leading us to Santa Maria, your concern about our well-being!) Your activities are well thought out: discovery of the farm, fishing the trout and the possibility to hike... and we liked the horse ride, too. Everything appears to have been well thought out. It's well organized and smart. We understand it is a big challenge of life and it's already a success!!!
Kisses to all, especially to Bobbie and Frankie Caroline and Nathan Belgium

Dear Anne and Kevin,
Thank you for everything you've done to make our experience at Hush Valley Lodge absolutely perfect. Your kindness combined with the beautiful paradise you welcomed us to is more than we ever could have asked for. The love and hard work that you've put into HVL shines through in the quality experience you give your guests. It's amazing to hear how the lodge has grown and continues to grow... thank you again Kevin for the tour! Thank you Anne for the rides into town and helping us find a Quetzal! Thank you Bobbie McGee for hiking the trails with us! Thank you Frankie for helping guide our tour! And thank you fish for letting us eat you. We can't say enough how much we appreciate what you've done for us and our trip to Costa Rica. We were so lucky to find HVL and hope this won't be our last time here!

We're baaaack!
We had such an incredible time here in January it wasn't even a week before we started our return trip (see six entries previous). We returned with friends and shared this cozy space. Unbelievably, it was even better than before.
Kevin and Anne make this amazing place so very difficult to leave (and Bobbie, too). I have no words to describe the welcome feeling you get from the moment you open the front gate. Hospitality doesn't come close to even describing it.
Again, the food was INCREDIBLE!!
The community is again so warm and engaging -- eat at Martin's!!
Tips for others: Stargaze at night, it's unbeatable! Hike to the maze (watch the sunrise). Eat Anne's food (don't miss out!). But mostly, relax and allow Hush Valley to do its job. You'll never be the same.
Krista and Dave Oregon, U.S.

Anne and Kevin,
What a spectacular home you have here. I can't think of a better place to just sit and enjoy nature. For two people from Montana who love plants, your property is closet to heaven. Not looking forward to going back to the harsh Montana winter. I have been catching trout back home all of my life, but never quite like at Hush Valley... it was a great experience. Speaking of trout, the fish dinner Anne prepared was delicious, as was everything she made.
We can't say enough about Hush Valley and all it has to offer. Thank you both for sharing your home, and Bobbie. She filled the void from our won dog back in Montana.
Hopefully we can make it back down here again. Peter
Thank you for being such gracious hosts. I can't imagine ending our vacation any other way. Your labor of love is so inspiring and all the lush vegetation has me itcing to get back home and garden. All the best to you two and the wonderful life here that you share. Delisa Montana, U.S.

We came from Oregon to see the Quetzal - AND WE DID!! Neener neener.
The Valley and farm are strikingly beautiful and the trout farming fascinating. So many gorgeous birds... so little time. The meals were great, the homemade jam and bread were fought over -- along with the butter and cheese. This is a little slice of paradise -- thank you for allowing us to share it, if only for a brief time.
Kevin, Anne -- stay healthy and happy.

Simply put, thank you for everything. Our stay at Hush Valley was nothing less than perfect! (minus the whole no Quetzal thing). We loved the casita, the food, the farm tour, the trails, the shower, once again - everything! The operation you guys have going on here is what dreams are made of. Bridget even suffered a minor allergy attack because she just couldn't resist the cuteness of Bobbie and had to hold her. So one last time, thank you! Best wishes moving forward, and name your next bull Rambo!!

Dear Anne and Kevin,
We are so pleased to have found you and Hush Valley Lodge. While we were only here for 2 days - they were perfect! You two are the people to know. We were so relaxed and enjoyed our stay: * tour = awesome! * dinners = amazing! * trout catching = unbelievable! (you should advertise this more!) * Frankie, Bobbie, the Bettys, Eastwood, Rocky, Redford and Willis = great entertainment
So glad to have met you and we hope to be back someday. Gracias, Nickie and Alex Chicago, IL, US
Thanks Kevin for the informative tour, it is obvious this has been a labour of love for both you and Anne. Many interesting projects that have made Hush Valley a great place to stay.
Again, thanks for the wonderful hospitality!

P.S. Bobbie and Frankie are fun companions
January 29, 2016
Much like when you first arrive at Hush Valley - it is difficult to find words to describe our experience here. The flora and fauna are gorgeous throughout, and the casita is warm and welcoming. It's difficult not to feel healthier and stress-free from the first night at Hush Valley. Anne, an exceptional cook, is incredibly considerate of your needs - almost intuitive, I'd say. Her poise and grace put you instantly at ease. Kevin is the English version of McGyver. His works here on the farm are genius and his passion obvious. I don't believe he's ever met a stranger -- as he is that easy to converse with. Though the experience of Hush Valley is undoubtedly enough for one to feel they have 'experienced' Costa Rica, embarking upon neighboring towns will give one a sense of where the energy comes from. The people of this region are accommodating, warm, inviting and generous with all things. Anne and Kevin are of the same cloth and fit nicely among the locals -- all pure spirits -- so refreshing. The only downside is, it is so very difficult to leave! Having escaped our "real lives" just long enough to realize that this is "real living," will keep us coming back again and again. Viva la Pura Vida! Much love to all of Hush Valley Krista and Dave Oregon, USA

Thank you for being such exceptional hosts. We booked our stay at Valley in a bit of a hurry and really had no idea we would be staying somewhere so inspiring while also serene. The beautiful design coupled with your hospitality made us feel totally at home. As people who hope to have a sustainable life, in a beautiful place, in a not-too-distant future, our stay with you leaves us full of excitement.
Thanks again, Ali and Corey, Maryland, USA
P.S. If you ever need to pawn Bobbie off on someone, we'll be ready and waiting!

Estimados Anne and Kevin,
Are we in Costa Rica.... or heaven? Thanks for our utterly peaceful and relaxing stay in paradise. I especially loved falling asleep between the white noise of the waterfall and mountain stream. I loved waking up to bright-colored flowers through the windows. There were so many meditative spots around the property - I especially loved the waterfall garden and the boulders in the river. Hiking trail was great and Bobbie McGee was an excellent companion! We felt so pampered with the meal delivery and it was a fantastic experience to catch and eat my own delicious trout! Thanks for making everything so easy!

P.S. the tour was so enjoyable and informative and we loved using the new bench! (romantic). Also swaying in the hammock! Thank for the pick-up and drop-off! So easy for us!!

Dear Anne and Kevin,
After spending nearly a month in Costa Rica, I am thrilled to say I unwittingly saved the best for last. This area (in general) is home to some of the most down-to-earth people and breathtaking views I've had the pleasure to experience. More specifically, your land and businesses are truly special. The work you guys put into this place is truly remarkable, and it takes only moments to recognize the love and hard work that has been put into Hush Valley Lodge.
Zac Maryland, USA
Thank you so much for your wonderful hospitality, amazing food, and for taking the time to show us your fantastic property and for even showing us around town. Thanks, too, to our wonderful hiking guide Bobbie! I have so many memories of our time here that I will cherish always!

Dear Anne and Kevin,
Thanks for a lovely stay in beautiful Hush Valley. It was a great way to begin our Costa Rica trip and 2-16! Thanks for making New Year's more special with the wine and smoked trout (so delicious!!). We loved our homegrown homemade breakfasts and the chance to relax without a worry in such a gorgeous location.
Little Bobbie McGee is the best (except for nipping at our feet haha)! She's so sweet and I loved having a dog around to hang out with. We especially enjoyed her company on our walks.
Thank you both for the care and dedication to your guests! We felt well taken care of.
Good luck to the farm and to you. I hope we'll be able to come by again sometime (or maybe some of our friends will have that pleasure).
Take care, Briana and Miles Upstate New York
P.S. Love eating at Martin's trout joint.

Anne and Kevin,
Thank you so much for you hospitality and for sharing your beautiful paradise with us! Our visit has definitely been too short - and we wish we had at least a couple more days to spend at Hush Valley. Driving onto the property is just breathtaking, and after only a day, we felt so comfortable, relaxed, and at home. We would swear we had already been here for a long time. You have made our stay here so easy and pleasant - our dinner on our first night was absolutely fantastic, the tour of the property was so interesting and eye-opening, giving us a very in-depth and unique perspective of this property and your home. Thank you so much for arranging our tour of Copedota (coffee plantation) today - escorting us there, recommending a restaurant for dinner - it was all just so refreshing and wonderful. You have a very special place here - thank you for welcoming us to share it for a few days! This was a perfect introduction to Costa Rica!Thank you!

Anne and Kevin,
Thank you for being such amazing hosts and generous, thoughtful people. Our stay exceeded our expectations in every way and our only sadness is having to leave earlier than we would like!
What you both have done here is inspiring to say the least. All of our best wishes and may the world give back to you for all your endeavors in making it a better place for all of us.

WOW! My experience at Hush Valley Lodge has been such a soulful time. This vacation has shown and taught me more than I could have ever imagined. I feel like I know myself just a bit better leaving here. You two are such optimistic and generous people, I will forever remember your warm hearted hospitality. You truly live in paradise!
So many firsts were had here and it's been really, really great! Thanks again guys! Hope to be back! Kaila Burlington, Ontario, Canada
P.S. Another thing, Anne, you are a master chef!

Chers Anne et Kevin,
The casita and the mountains were a really refreshing end to our Costa Rican trip after the heat of the coast. We found here a very peaceful place and enjoyed hiking and resting after days of intense activities.
We loved the company of Bobbie and Frankie, and it was a pleasure to taste the trout (however, Diane was a mess with catching them) and vegetables from the garden.
We also loved the welcome that was very warm and it was a pleasure to share moments with both of you (thanks again for the property tour and the ride to Santa Maria... for sure that was more than just housing).
On vous souhaite le meilleur pour la suite! Adrien et Diane Lyon, France

Anne and Kevin,
Thank you so much for a wonderful first trip to Costa Rica! You are both such loving, wonderful people who are full of light and positive energy. Even though I came alone to a country I have never been, you made me feel like I was coming home. I feel lucky to have found Hush Valley and honored to have been a guest. Your love for the land is awe-inspiring. Kevin - thank you for the farm tour and quad ride, all while teaching me about the land. Anne - I am so glad that we spent my last day exploring and learning about each other while soaking up the beautiful drive to Providencia! Bobbie also has a piece of my heart, guarding my door each morning and hiking with me. I feel that I have made two new life-long friends and I hope to keep in touch so we can continue to learn from each other. You two are the ABSOLUTE best!

The farm is beautiful... we are so impressed with all you have done here and thank you for sharing it with us during our trip to Costa Rica. Bobbie was such a great tour guide out on the trails. We will be sad to leave the cozy little casita. It is so peaceful here.
Thank you for everything! All the best, Von, Brenda, Baron and Coco California

Kevin and Anne,
We can't express the level of beauty and warmth we found while staying at Hush Valley Lodge. Your phenomenal hospitality and passion for your new adventure has made this the most special part of our honeymoon. You've created something truly amazing here and we're excited to keep up with your blog and see the evolution of your little slice of paradise. We loved relaxing in the casita, hiking the trails, learning about the history of the farm, enjoying the delicious homemade meals, and exploring the stunning waterfall garden! Bobbie was a wonderful adventure companion! We loved the experience of catching our own trout for dinner. We will be recommending your farm to our friends and family and we hope to make it back here at some point in our travels. Thanks for an unforgettable end to our honeymoon!
Until next time, Monica and Brandon Idaho

Anne and Kevin,
My oh my - what a place! From the spectacular entrance to the casita, river, ponds and trails... everything just works! Anne, the meals and presentation were great. Kevin, you are a fountain of knowledge on many topics. We understand the work involved and what a fantastic job you both have done to make Hush Valley what it is today, a true destination. We enjoyed our stay immensely, the fireflies tonight enchanted the evening sky. Will seriously consider this place in our future plans.

Dear Anne and Kevin,
Thank you so much for you hospitality. Sleeping in the casia was a special experience for us. In every corner of the house, you can feel that living here is not just a business for you... it is true love. We wish you all the best for your future, if it is here or somewhere else. Thank you again.

Dear Kevin and Anne,
Thank you so much for welcoming us into your Eden. Your way to put love in the world is remarkable. My experience here is potentially life changing...
Best for the future, Merci, Simon Quebec, Canada
Chere Anne, Dear Kevin,
We knew the vibe was good and special even before coming, but we couldn't imagine how true that feeling was! I've told you non-stop since we got here, but we are deeply privileged to have been introduced to your whole little ecosystem. Not only is it beautiful in itself, but the heart and spirit, and wit, and intelligence you put into it bring it to another level. You are inspiring human beings who make the people around you want to vigorously set course toward their own dreams. At least, this is what's happening to us!
Sincerely, Gabrielle, Quebec, Canada

Thank you so much for the generosity you have shown, allowing us to share this magical part of the world with you!
It was so nice to meet you and talk – this just makes the stay perfect.
The food was divine and we are extremely pleased we did not cook for ourselves – if you ever wanted to open a restaurant it would be full! (or a bake shop... yum yum).
We loved chatting, walking, resting in the beautiful house and the cold swims were a bonus! (Hope to see more on your cold swim exploits...)
Thank you, thank you Guy and Maite London, England

Thank you for sharing your beautiful place with us. We love how genuine and open you both are. You make us feel so welcome and at ease. It was so wonderful to meet your neighbours for a tour and see a little bit of authentic Costa Rica. The food was perfect! And thank you, Kevin, for showing us your routine and allowing us to 'help out". You both are so good at what you do... we wish you all the best in whatever your future holds.

Anne and Kevin,
After an adventurous tour of San Jose, we finally arrived just before sunset at your magnificent property. We were greeted by the sound of the water rushing down the river. What a paradise you have here.
Thank you so much for sharing all of this with us, thank you Kevin for helping me catch a fish and for the extremely informative tour. Thank you Anne for setting up our coffee tour and the most delicious dinners ever!!
The only thing we are disappointed in is the fact that we don't have more time here.
We wish you the best of luck with your future endeavours, and whenever you're back in Canada, get a hold of us and we can go for dinner.
Thank you again, Terri and George, Grimsby, Ontario, Canada

A bientôt (peut-être ici our à Montréal). SI vous y passez, appelez-nous, on vous attend!
xxx à Bobbie et Frankie

Dear Anne and Kevin,
We have discovered a beautiful paradise... after a bit of worry with the last few kilometres.
We had planned to explore the region, but we simply preferred to take advantage of your corner of paradise! We adored the whole environment, flowers, trees, birds, the river, the tranquility and the pure air... it's a shame the Quetzals and the trout in the river are so elusive!
In addition, we were served like kings by Anne, who prepared us divine meals.
Thank you to Kevin for the very interesting tour of the property, to Anne for organizing both the coffee and orchard tours... and let's not forget the Rio Blanco restaurant.
Above all, it was your kindness that will remain our fondest memory.
See you soon (here or in Montreal). If you're ever in the neighbourhood, call us, we'll be waiting!

Hush Valley Lodge is all that we'd hoped it would be... a serene and peaceful, extraordinarily beautiful environment where we relaxed, hiked, ate Anne's fabulous dinners (fished for our own trout), cooked delicious omelettes with fresh eggs, saw rainbows, photographed the gardens and learned so much about the farm, the land and even its history. Fred did see a Quetzal, although only briefly, he is thrilled!
Thank you Anne and Kevin for a glorious end to our Costa Rican holiday.

Dear Anne and Kevin,
While our journey here was quite adventurous, driving an unpaved road in the mountains, it was well worth the effort.
Your place defines what paradise is. It's relaxing and extremely peaceful. We appreciated learning about all your stories - it gave us a greater appreciation of Coat Rica. As we continue to travel through Costa Rica, we will hold you in our memories quite fondly.
From you trail guide "Bobbie", we learned to navigate through the trails. She's a sweet little energetic puppy! If Michael could, I know he'd ship her back to Canada.
Thanks again for all you have done for us. The two of you are terrific hosts in every way.
Sincerely, Julie and Michael Ontario, Canada

Anne, Kevin, Frankie and Bobbie,
We arrived under nightfall and immediately noticed the lush smell. We were delighted when we awoke to a beautiful paradise. We enjoyed our tour and were amazed at how simple yet innovative and resourceful you are with your land. The food was fantastic! We were trying to pick our favourite dish, but could not choose as they were all so wonderful. We will never forget our hike with Bobbie, who seemed to have little confidence in our navigation skills. Hush Valley was a great way to start our trip and get acquainted with Costa Rica.
Best wishes, Nicole and Kyle Ontario, Canada

Dearest Kevin, Anne, Bobbie and Frankie,
What can we say? Hush Valley Lodge is absolute heaven!! As soon as we arrived we knew this was somewhere special! The cabin is like a fairytale! With the lovely little birds knocking on the window in the morning to the beautiful old stove which kept us warm and cosy at night. Anne – I have now learnt to make a fire – thank you!
Thank you, Kevin, for your brilliant tour of the farm – we learnt so much. It's amazing what you've done with this place... the waterfall garden... so heavenly! I loved meeting the calf bulls - particularly Redford who I enjoyed prodding him down the hill!
Anne, thank you so much for driving us to the coffee tour and the tope, which was a fabulous day out!
The meals were so delicious - we never thought we'd be able to catch a trout for our dinner! From the bread (homemade) to the tasty desserts, the chickens' eggs, fresh milk and blackberry jam – all mouthwatering and wholesome.
Thank you so much again for your amazing hospitality and generosity. And thank you, Bobbie, for the cuddles and helping me by leading the way on the beautiful trails. In one word – AMAZING! (my word of these last 3 days).
We wish you all the best for the future, Love Charlotte, Sara and John England

Dear Anne and Kevin,
We had wonderful days in your casita. We enjoyed the tranquility and we were happy to come in a northern climate after 2 weeks of tropical sun.
I (Tanya) fell in love with your little dog, Bobbie. Also feeding the little bulls was a nice experience for me, thanks a lot Kevin!! In your guesthouse, we felt like in the "Almhütte". Especially the old oven was one of my favourite things. I made the trout in there and it works well!
In the evenings, we played cards while sitting at the fire and in the morning we jumped under the cold shower. At home we also have a peace of forest with a small wooden house, which we use at the weekend. That's the reason why we feel like home at your place. And the homemade butter, marmalade, bread and the Shepherd's Pie were wonderful. Thank you, Anne!
Two things happened which are maybe worth it to mention here. On the first day, a little green bird was flying into the house and did not find the way back outside. So, I picked him up and put him on the grass. At first he don't want to leave my hand, just after awhile he jumped off. And he needs a little time before he was able to fly away. I was happy that he did not hurt himself by flying against the window. Second afternoon when we tried to make a fire to coo our trout, Frank had problems to keep the fire burning and suddenly the wind pressed the smoke back and the casita was full of smoke. Fortunately, just for a few minutes. So we just stayed two days and tomorrow morning we will leave very early.
So I say by this point we give both of you big hugs (and I hope I did not make too many mistakes by writing this)
Tanja and Frank Hamburg, Germany
(Please note: cold shower was their preference... we do have hot water on site)

Dear Anne and Kevin!
Our trip through Costa Rica has been wonderful, exposing us to the joys of another culture... however, we were not prepared for our stay here in EDEN - we did not in any way expect to experience what being in this incredibly beautiful place would mean, nor could we have - there's probably no other place on earth with this 'right' combination of... where to start? Of tropical plants and the lush green forests surrounding the valley, the feeling of being at home in the casita, the soft, constant murmur of the flowing water, the reflections of the forest and sky in the ponds, the mist coming over the mountains falling softly like rain under the blue sky... you know! That's just what's happening physically and not including the wonders of the rest of it.
The two of you really do make this a unique spot by sharing your enthusiasm, passion, knowledge with us! OUr path through life has - lately - been one of searching for our most human capacities, and you have added a whole new chapter to our quests. The way you greeted us at the very first, the careful tour through the casita, the delicious Shepherd's Pie got us off to such a great start. You were not at all withholding in your expressions of love for Hush Valley and included us in so much of why you feel this way - we felt it too!
If we have a regret, it's that we didn't know what we would find here, and make this an anchor for exploring the rest of the country. Instead of the few days we've had, we think a much longer time would have been soooo much better... now we have to come back! As I look up at the blue sky through the mist - we are so grateful for everything!
Peter and Jo Prescott, Arizona
P.S. Peter says it so well! I would just add my personal thanks for your generous support - exemplified by Anne's helping hand on my less surefooted downhill part of our glorious hike and Kevin's after-dark dash into Santa Maria to retrieve the purse I'd so absentmindedly left in a restaurant. Anne, I'll be in touch with more to say about 'tugs', but you've put us in touch with a few we'd never dreamed of... we don't want to leave!
Jo

What a special place in the world is Hush Valley! Kevin and Anne, you make it even more special with your stewardship and kind hospitality. We have been so happy to visit here, and to meet you. What a privilege to stay here! The food and accommodations have been delightful and we so appreciate your close-to-the-land methods of farming and accommodating guests. We wish you well and will remember our stay here fondly.

Dear Anne and Kevin,
To make a long story short, we had a wonderful time at Hush Valley Lodge! The 'casita' and the whole property is marvelous – we didn't miss a thing and can't complain about anything – except that we should have stayed here longer than just 2 nights! You two being one of the greatest hosts we've met so far, we felt welcomed at once and really enjoyed the time with you – the tours you gave us, the cow feeding and our very first fishing experience! Additionally, the food and the dinners you prepared for us were excellent :)
We're really thankful and hope that a lot of future travellers can enjoy the beauty you built up here!!! All the best, Christina and Philipp Germany

Anne and Kevin,
Where do we even begin? So much beauty, friendly smiling faces, amazing food, a cozy casita, the list goes on and on...
Thank you so much for sharing this special place with us! We really enjoyed your tour of the grounds and are very impressed and inspired with how you both have embaraced not only a sustaninable farming lifestyle, but with how connected you have become within the local community. Your kindness and hospitality is as flowing and abundant as the impressive river, waterfall and ponds that surround us!
And the food... oh the food! What a delight to have been able to catch our own trout (a pretty good catch, I mus say!) and have it perfectly prepared with all the fixings. We were extra excited about the fresh raw milk, eggs, fresh bread and butter, apple juice and jam for breakfast. Yum! But what truly has been the best part of our visit was spending time with you both and getting to hear about your journey to Costa Rica. We really appreciate all of the advice and how willing you are to share your story and guidance. We hope to be able to one day move here as well. What a dream!
It truly has been a pleasure to spend a short stay here. We wish it was longer than just two nights. We'll just have to come back soon! Thanks for making the casita so cozy and comfy. All of the details were much appreciated!
If ever you come to San Diego, please let us know. You are always welcome in our home.
All the best, Janessa and Mike San Diego, California

After a busy nine-day G.Adventure tour of the natural wonders of Costa Rica, Hush Valley Lodge was the perfect spot for rest and relaxation.
What a beautiful place you have here Anne and Kevin. You have put your heart and soul into it and your passion for the farm and Costa Rica shines through.
Thank you Anne for the wonderful meals you prepared and for the extra mile you went in guiding us to Santa Maria and San Marcos.
Thank you Kevin for time spent touring us around the property and explaining the intricacies of fish farming and animal husbandry."

CLOSED SEPTEMBER AND OCTOBER
August 31, 2014 Where to begin? I love the hammock! and Frankie! Hiking on your property, enjoying the views, taking pictures of the watefalls, hummingbirds, ponds, rivers and vibrant flowers was fun. Having your company to explain the history of the region and your special slice of paradise really added to my enjoyment. I appreciated meeting your neighbours and touring their farm. Their graciousness and serenity seem indicative of the Costa Rican people. I loved Cindy's art and am grateful that I found some for sale at the coffee co-op to bring home. I adored your cooking, Anne - it was all a feast for the senses – from the flowers on top of the salads, to the yummy bread and banana bread to the smooth and tasty squash soup and broccoli soup and the pizza we ate riverside! I appreicated the option of real, raw milk and felt right at home in the cozy kitchen. The casita has a warm and inviting feel and had everything we needed for a great sleep, and lots of time for reading and relaxing! Thank you for arranging the tours and for helping us choose a restaurant and for all of the helpful tips you provided! We really enjoyed spending time with you and Kevin – your adventure is turning out to be a beautiful creation here in Rio Blanco. Many thanks and kindest regards, Lianne Newmarket, Ontario I did not see the Resplendent Quetzal, but that was not necessary as the whole experience was resplendent! Warren Newmarket, Ontario also :)
August 4, 2014 Truly enjoyed my stay! Anne and Kevin's hospitality was excellent. I was only here 2 nights, but those nights were so relaxing and peaceful. I will return, but next time I must make it a point to stay more on the property to fully enjoy and relax. Brian Jacksonville, Florida
May 30, 2014 Dear Anne and Kevin,
Thank you for providing us with the most perfect start to our honeymoon. The months leading up to our wedding were incredibly stressful and after spending just 3 days here in this amazingly beautiful place, it feels as though all of that stress has been erased. We can't remember the last time we felt so calm, centred and relaxed.
We very much enjoyed your delicious meals - the broccoli cauliflower soup especially. It was so good! And your surprise wedding gift of the Champagne and smoked trout was so generous and kind (and yummy!) – thanks again for that special honeymoon treat.
Brent and I both enjoyed getting the grand tour, learning about your little piece of paradise – you have created such an incredible place here. We also had so much fun fishing for our dinner, hiking along the trails, taking pictures of the gardens and birds, playing cards, and drinking delicious coffee in the casita when it rained.
Everything helped to add to this wonderful experience, helping to create great memories for us as we start our new life together as husband and wife.
Thank you for everything – we are truly grateful. Jenn and Brent Ontario, Canada
May 26, 2014 Anne and Kevin,
The energy of this place makes the name well deserved. The waterfall area watching the clouds gently roll over the hills onto the treetops and the pitter-patter of the rain on the rook create exactly the kind of calm and soothing soul rejuvenating environment we were looking for. The friendly and knowledgeable service is complemented perfectly by the delicious food delivered right to our door!! We so appreciate your efforts to run the lodge in the most sustainable manner possible. The stunning beauty surrounding the cabin were we are staying is magnified by all the nature sounds echoing through the valley. Thanks for everything!
Jodi, Joy and Brent Mechanicville, NY
P.S. The beds and bedding made the nights super cozy!

We had a mother/daughter team from the U.S. stay with us for two nights and here is what they had to say: From the mother: Dear Anne and Kevin, Thank you for sharing your beautiful valley with us – it is so vibrant with colors and life – very peaceful. We so appreciate your style of life and wish more people would join you. You
truly took away any stress I had when venturing outside of my country.
Thank you for everything and I hope to return with my husband! Sincerely, Sandy North Carolina, U.S. From the daughter: Anne and Kevin, Thank
you so much for your help and hospitality. This place is a gem. I
really wish my nephews were here to see all of the lightening bugs –
they would've freaked out! Staying here was a very
nice surprise – I kept feeling like my mom and I are very blessed in
this lifetime, to 'randomly' pick a place online and end up here: truly a
good sign!! Thank you for all you are doing to be present and to
contribute to your part of the world and environment. Peace and blessings! Happy Full Moon – may we release all that no longer serves us and trust that all we need is already here. Jessica Florida, U.S.
I wasn't convinced when Philippe decided to leave the Pacific Coast to gain altitude. We live in the Alps. Why climb to 2000 m (6,500 ft)? We arrive at Hush Valley Lodge: we feel the serenity and harmony. Anne, Kevin and nature greet us in this privileged place. Here we discover a little jewel of a guesthouse, inside it's all in the detail, charming and cosy. We don't waste any time to start the wood stove then hop in the shower. We fall asleep on a bed of stars. In the early morning, this sky so clear invites us to breakfast: eggs, fresh butter and fruit juice, homemade bread and jam: what happiness! Anne is a fine "cordon bleu"* (it's French people who are saying this!). Just wait for the dinner if you still need convincing! Kevin takes the relay baton and takes us on the tour of his lovely adventure of raising trout: it's incredible! Seems he's been doing this forever?!? Anne, Kevin, you two, you give so much joy. We leave you to continue our journey. We bring with us a sense of well-being, lovely memories... et some smoked trout! :)

If you come to France and visit 'our' region, it is with great pleasure that we would receive you and share our local products like 'foie gras', nuts and our cheeses, etc.

February 21, 2014 Dear Anne, Kevin and Frankie, After getting to the Parque Nacíonal Los Quezales for hiking today, we were mostly just excited to return to your land, where we had seen and identified over a dozen species of birds the day before. Driving up to the base of Hush Valley, two Cattle Egrets posed bridge-side for us, which by this point in our stay has become almost expected. The natural beauty of Hush Valley will be missed dearly, especially as we return to the bitter chill of Canadian winter. Thank you for the care, commitment and wholehearted dedication you put into both your business and community – we felt very looked after during our stay here and our experience was enriched by the personal connection and all of the efforts you put into showing us your community. We are especially grateful for the trip into San Marcos and the welcome onto your farm, as well as the knowledge you shared about Costa Rican society and culture, and the experiences that brought you both here. Thank you again, we will be sure to pass along word of this lovely place. Take good care and keep up the tremendous efforts! Gabriel and Sara Calgary, Canada P.S. Kevin – thanks for running full spedd to get us for the Quetzal – we really appreciate it! P.S.S. The dictionary and wildlife guides have been so helpful, and the bread and eggs delicious!
January 2, 2014 Dear Anne and Kevin (and the animals)
Thank you so much for sharing your little piece of paradise with us! Your warm care and Hush Valley Lodge were perfect to catch our breath after a long trip through Costa Rica. The hospitality and the delicious food made us feel as if we were coming home. Than you for the special care on the day that I got sick and for the unforgettable special attention with New Year's Eve.
Catching my own dinner was a first – and it was fun! We wish you all the best in this special place and throughout this exciting journey!
Hugs Nathalie and Mikey Amsterdam, The Netherlands

December 30, 2013 Anne, Kevin, Francesca and the Bettys We LOVE your piece of paradise and want to thank you for everything, for "living the dream", for your hospitality, the great stories,, the amazing trails, the well-appointed casita, Anne's cooking (yum yum) and Kevin's insights and resourcefulness. This place is so much more than we imagined and the vibe it imparts can only be experienced first-hand (live!). The pictures of HVL aren't even close to the reality that's here. "Oh what a feeling, what a rush" – a sensory extravaganza and a place to detox, unwind and embrace the wonderfulness of nature and of your generosity. We are already planning our return Big hugs, Miriam, Ed, Alexander and Matthew Toronto, Canada

Anne and Kevin,
Thank you so much for having Alan and me for this amazing long weekend. The casita is bright and charming - just right! We truly enjoyed every moment. You have made your little paradise of Costa Rica a permanent place in my heart. We will look back on our time fondly and look forward to our next visit (with the girls).
Both of you have worked so hard to make Hush Valley Lodge an amazing place - a home away from home and so much more. May your trout keep growing and your Bettys keep laying. Pura Vida!

Dear Kevin and Anne, I want to say thank you for giving me the chance to know Hush Valley Lodge. I dont have words to express how happy I was to meet you and experience such an amazing place. Nature is pure, the feeling of water all over the place is magic and seeing so many plants and flowers that I didn't know. Your food was glorious: I ate the freshest trout that I have ever eaten. With all these things, I almost wanted to cry from happiness!!! I definitely will come back!!! I wish you the best with all your projects!!! See you soon!!!

... and so we're back for more - yippeee!
It's been fantastic to return to HVL at the end of our month-long trip to Costa Rica. To start and end the vacation with you both has been so incredibly useful; you set us on the right road and we've had the chance to share our memories and experiences with you a month later.
Catching up on your wonderful existence here in the community, seeing the Organic farm, 'cupping' coffee with you and Javier, meeting Martin and Clara and fishing for our lunch have all been extraordinary experiences. Not forgetting Roberto's cheese and your carrot cake, banana bread, fresh eggs, etc. – we've had a ball! Thank you, Thank you!!!

Dearest Anne with an E and Kevin (oops, and Frankie!)
So, it's lucky we're planning to come back in a few weeks because we don't want to leave your stunning corner of Costa Rica!! Hush Valley Lodge is everything you described and yet that 'feeling' can only be experienced when hearing the rush of the water; witnessing those perfect reflections on the 'lower lake'; sleeping like babies in the casita; and enjoying your warm hospitality. The advice you provided to us before we left Saudi was priceless and meant so much to us – thank you for all your kindness.
We can't wait to see you again and hope we'll add Roberto's farm visit to the other fabulous activities you organised for us. Hugs, Leanne and Drew Mills Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

Thank you so much for letting us stay in your beautiful casita. We had a great time sleeping in such a peaceful place after the Fun Day at Rio Blanco. Dear Kevin and Anne,
What a wonderful birthday treat and way to wrap up 6 months of backpacking through the States and Central America! Hush Valley Lodge is truly a small piece of paradise. The cabina is lovely and I felt right at home. Waking up to the beautiful birdsong and the peaceful meander of the Perez river; the farm fresh eggs, butter, apple juice and jam; Anne's delicious trout dinner; walking the riverbed; touring the local sustainable coffee co-op... it's difficult to decide what I loved the most! Although, probably getting to know Anne and Kevin, the great conversations we had about almost everything. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I hope the both of you continue to love this Costa Rica life so I can return for another visit!
Wish you two the best! Joy Weick, B.C. Canada

Dear Kevin and Anne,
For us, the magic of our stay with you already began when the taxi deposited us outside the church in Copey. Already smitten with the quiet, secluded but pretty nature of the village, there was Anne to take us to Hush Valley Lodge. The drive, which was great, did not prepare us for the beauty of your driveway, up and over the hill, around the curve to the vista that was going to be our home for 3 days. Or so we thought. So taken were we with everything about Hush Valley Lodge, we stayed five days.
What did we do here? Well, we discovered that the casita offers the best napping environment we have ever enjoyed. It is a very cheerful cabin. We can hear the river right beside us, just the right amount. There is just the right amount of light coming in and dancing around.
We also had the best showers ever; perched outdoors right beside the river, a little shower turret on our little casita castle.
As readers, we were very happy with the comfortable furniture inside and out and the good lighting. And it wasn't just comfortable, it was all so damn attractive.
Hush Valley Lodge is great for lazy people who just want to move their chairs around the property during the day to enjoy different views. But for those of us who like a little activity, it is great, too. Thank you for having a place where we could put on our hiking boots and go for good walks. As you know, I went way up a couple of times on your trails and further up on the road, which was itself picturesque. The vistas were awesome, the walks down a great reward.
Usually after some sort of exhausting activity, we would make coffee. Well, of course, it's great coffee and for those of us who are kinda needy about having our good cup of coffee everyday, it was really something which we looked forward to.
It was also very nice during our lazy evenings to have access to SKY TV.
Thank you so much Anne for your delicious meals and your bread! OMG! We really appreciated that we had the option to feed ourselves or be fed. That really worked for us. And thank you for being EVER READY with the wine... you clued in right away that we were those kinds of people. And thank your hens for those eggs. Man, we forgot how lovely fresh eggs are.
And Kevin, thank you for sharing your interest and passion with us. We learned a lot from you and are so impressed with what you have accomplished with this property. It is an amazing piece of property, thank goodness it's got someone like you and Anne to take care of it.
Here's a place for people to recoup, fix themselves, for lovers, for artists and for people like Allan and me. We are very lucky we found you. Thank you so much for your wonderful hospitality.

Hush Valley Lodge is a serene paradise where relaxation is unavoidable. The guesthouse has every amenity under the sun for a luxurious and comfortable stay. Waking up to the river running and the birds chirping set the tone for what is sure to be a peaceful day.

Anne,
Best wishes to you and Kevin.
We arrived home to face 25°F weather and the following two days were very dreary with heavy clouds and fog. It was a real shock to return to winter and we needed time to make the needed adjustments. However, nothing here has diminished the wonderful experiences we had during our great adventure in Costa Rica. We are certainly planning to return in October to the Atlantic side and the work has already begun to get things set up.
You and Kevin are remarkable people and your story has been told to many here since our return. I have to admit there is something lacking in our story because this is one of those "you have to see it yourself" kind of thing. You can only fully appreciate what you have done and are doing by visiting you and experiencing your enthusiasm and excitement first hand. We hope you continue on your path and enjoy life as it is intended to be enjoyed.
Best wishes Arthur

Turning off the busy highway, it took only five more kilometres to come over the rainbow and land in Shangri La. All that is missing is Alice and her Munchkins. We love the beautiful and peaceful setting of Hush Valley Lodge, the fresh, clean air and water. Thank you, Kevin, for your tour and explanations of the history and operation of your trout farm. It was great fun to catch our own dinner. You are a true wizard! As so often is the case, 'cherchez la femme', Anne, you are a great hostess and a great kitchen artist. We loved your meals and see your effort in your beautiful gardens. And thanks to the Bettys for working so hard for us. Back in Ontario, we will start our dream of returning.

Hi Anne and Kevin,
Paul and I would like to thank you again for the stay at your lodge. This is our last night in Costa Rica and we've been looking back on this trip, and the stay at Hush Valley was definitely one of the highlights! It was something different that we wouldn't have thought to do, which made it more memorable. Your casita is so charming and sweet, definitely a very nice place to stay for someone who wants a getaway in paradise! The food and hospitality was also top notch. With the kids, it was a bit harder for us to fully enjoy than if we were on our own, but it was still a great experience for all - the kids still talk about it!
We are very impressed with you being able to just jump in and go for it with this move! Looks like you have made a great decision.
I will recommend your lodge to anyone I know coming to Costa Rica.
We are leaving tomorrow to go back to the cold and chaos ;( We wish you all the best with your business, keep enjoying the Pura Vida, and I'm sure we'll meet again,
