Since it's been raining since 3 pm, Kevin decided to walk up to the aqueduct gate and check the water levels. The river is rising and ever-so-slightly wilder (nothing to write home about, really). However, with rain comes sediment and the need to diligently monitor the situation is always on Kevin's mind.
Kevin came back in the house to tell me he saw the most amazing cat. He was shining his flashlight on it and it wasn't fazed in the least. It just sauntered by and slipped into the dense forest. Kevin said it was just a bit larger than a house cat, but definitely not a house cat. He quickly looked it up in our Animals from Costa Rica book and it was either an Oncilla or a Margay (the more he studies the markings, he's pretty sure it was an Oncilla). The book says these animals are very rarely seen as they are elusive and nocturnal (but lucky Kevin, who has horseshoes up his butt, gets to see one, of course!... I'm not bitter... I guess that's his reward for being the one to go out at night in the pouring rain).
What a beautiful and mysterious feline, indeed!
